Off topic, but im looking to major in computer engineering as well. What colleges are you applying to and what are your stats? Thanks .. I don think you would be behind but yes some kids take C++ , Visual Basic, and Java in highschool... and i think C++ or Java will be common in college.

My s is interested in comp.sci. & we asked that exact question of several CS departments on our summer tour. All said their students come in at different levels due to differences in high school curriculum and just take the courses they need once enrolled. It didn't sound like a big disadvantage if your school does not offer the courses. At least that's what we're hoping.

We, also, inquired of several CE schools on our tours the last couple of years. The general consensus was that if a student was particularly strong in programming, he could take a departmental exam to determine his placement after enrollment.
Our S is currently a freshman CE major and is working with JAVA in his first programming class. There are NO programming classes available at our small HS, although he self-taught C++ from a couple of books. He was good enough to represent the school on a regional level at academic competitions and earn a few points for the school, but said he wouldn't count himself proficient. He seems to be thoroughly enjoying the class and reports a high A after 6 weeks.
I really think most CS/CE students are just wired to thrive in these classes - I would quickly sink!
