Can someone tell me more about Duke? I've read a little about it, but from an insider's viewpoint or from those who have visited it. Thanks-

Very beautiful Gothic style campus! Extremely competitive admissions process!!! Middle range of SATs between 1360-1520 . . . 199 kids with 1600s applied there last year and many of those were not accepted! Undergrad enrollment = about 6,000 . . . Two campuses: East(older) and West . . . commuter buses run every four minutes between the two campuses since all freshman live on East campus, yet many of their classes are on West campus . . . $40,000 per year!!!! . . . No credit given for APs in fulfilling basic undergrad requirements, but APs can be used as elective credit. . . pretty stringent undergrad requirements. . .
What else do you want to know? My daughter is applying to Duke ED, and we have visited it once. We will also be attending NC/SC Day there next weekend. Only 14% of the students are from NC/SC, by the way.
If you are from the Carolinas, you may want to register for NC/SC Day. They will specifically outline all scholarships available to area students on that occasion.

The best think about Duke is that it's not far from Chapel Hill.

What's chapel hill? Also, what I meant to ask was what sort of students excel there? What sorts of programs/majors is it particularly famous for, etc.

One of the best schoolS in America: Excellent academics. Nice campus. Town too small.
