I'm a junior at a public high school in rural Colorado. Having lived in small towns all of my life, I have decided that I *need* and want to experience the 'big city life' and what better city to do that than New York City? My 'dream' school also happens to be my 'reach' school and financially OUT OF REACH, New York University. I'm looking at schools such as Eugene Lang, Pratt Institute, Hunter College and Fordham as other options if I don't get into NYU which are still in the NYC area. Can anyone familiar with NYC area schools divulge any more information or recommend any particular schools? Thanks a lot!

Also try Pace University. And if you are a girl, look into Marymount Manhattan. Also, very close in the burbs is Sarah Lawrence, which has a daily van to Manhattan and good financial aid.

Thanks hoping! I had forgotten about Pace. It looks like an excellent school in NYC. Do you have any more information about it?

My kid goes to NYU. Its big and impersonal, but the area is exciting and the educational opportunities are top notch. If female, Barnard --a school within Columbia - is quite good.
Reportedly, Boston also offers a great big city experience. Boston Univ. is a common backup school for NYU, and Northeastern is not to hard to get into.

I'm a freshmen in college at Delaware State University. I'm originally from White Plains, NY myself. I plan on transfering to a school in NYC, which are the best schools in NYC?

Pace does not "suck." It is growing in leaps and bounds. Many very successful people in the NY area have gone there, and if you want to settle in NYC you can make great connections. I did not go there and have no involvement with the school. I only know I have met plenty of grads who seem to be thriving.

Pace is good if you enjoy professors teaching straight from textbooks and classrooms with no windows. CUNY honors school offers much more than Pace, they pay you to attend.
If you're female, Barnard is a good choice, its affliated with Columbia.

Nyu is not all that it is cracked up to be. people are stuck up and there are a number of people here craving to see their name in lights. I transfered to Barnard and absolutely LOVE It!! NYU is just too commercial for me!

I loved pace and was very unhappy at Barnard.

I know I'm probably coming onto this too late, but I just wanted to get in on this little NYC college debate. I am currently a freshman at Fordham Lincoln Center, and am bitterly disappointed. It's not at all challenging because they have a 2 year core program which is the same for everyone. It doesn't matter that I got a 5 on my English AP, I still have to sit in an intro english class and learn how to write a paper! Moreover, the students are not very intellectual. Most annoying though is that there are tons of guys, and the majority is gay (the school has a strong performing arts program). I am not homophobic, it's just that you WILL NOT find the fun flirtation and other such stuff most people affiliate with college life at Fordham LC.

If you're just coming off high school and wants to attend a college in New Yok City, dont' go to Pace. If you want an education, don't go to Pace. Pace University is a career oriented institution. If you want a career, then please enroll at Pace. If you have the corporate mindset, then go to Pace. Almost everyone at Pace has a palm pilot, wears black or in a suit and thinks that they're some sort off hot shot executive. The student union is a small room, the library has only two floors and is noisy with no banker's light ( the library is an indication of what shithole this school is), the administrative staff are rude, the security staff are nasty, librarians are stupid, the staff at the office of the academic affairs are paranoid. Some of the professors are actually competent. However, overall, you're buying your education, not earning it. It is not challenging to go to Pace University. There is no socialization, only few are intellectuals -- who ends up transferring anyway. Fifty percent of Students at Pace University are foreign students (mostly Asians and Euoropeans). The rest are either NYU rejects, out of towners who thinks their in a good school just because they're in New York, and as mentioned before , students who want to sell their soul to a corporation. Pace are just in it for the money. They manipulate the whole financial aid system giving you the impression that they're giving you all these aids which are really loans that you have to pay back. Bottom line -- Pace Sucks. If you're an a%%hol# or a sell out, please by all means go to Pace. Birds who flock together stay together.

Greetings Everyone:

I just wanted to clear things up.

1) I graduated with my BBA & BA from Pace University after transfering in from another school. Pace has opened a lot of doors for me as well as many other student/friends I know. So critizing the staff compares to nothing as people are going to be rude regardless of where you go. As the old saying goes there is a bad apple in every bunch.

2) I just graduated with my MBA from New York University. While I enjoyed the education I received, I missed the special attention I got from Pace University. Granted Pace needs to get rid of some of those professors that can't speak english, but that problem exists just about every where. As I mentioned my NYU experience was pretty good. However the good times, the professors, diversity in students, clubs, housing, etc brings back a lot of fun and also reminds me of a lot of hard work I had to do to graduate with a double major.

3) As for stuffy, Columbia University is stuffy, NYU is stuffy, Pace is stuffy, Baruch is somewhat stuffy... WHY? Take a look at the business rankings. You are right to say that we were/are stuffy but it is with good reason. We are being trained for tomorow, which Pace does with the core and the major part of the degree. Once you get educated enough you will realize that it is not that the schools are stuffy... it tells you that you have missed out on the opportunity to be on the ban wagon with all those who took Pace for all it got and became something out of it.

4) Pace Univesity also has many programs which are highly regarded. The part-time MBA program always ranks high, the executive MBA ranks high, the business undergrad programs rank in the top 100 or so, the forensic science bachelors and masters is excelling greatly, the psychology UG and Graduate is one of the best... the Nursing program is regarded as well... need I continue?

I have no regrets about Pace. I learned a lot and earn alot because of it. Tuition is now on a flat rate which means the amount you pay remains the same for 4-5 years of study AND YOU ARE GUARANTEED TO GRADUATE WITHIN 4 YEARS IF YOU FOLLOW YOUR ADVISORS ADVISE. Pace has also taken students from NYU and Columbia into their new honors program. SO pace is heading in a good direction. I am sorry you are so sore at Pace, and I do hope you find something in another school which teaches you to complain little and make the most of what you have.

P.S. And as for the sell out process... I graduated from 2 great business schools in New York City (Pace University and NYU). The fact that you call us sell outs pretty much makes me beleive that you could NOT make it in any of the forementioned schools and had to settle for something like Drake Business School... (not that there is anything wrong with that just making an example). BUT WHILE YOU ARE OUT CALLING PEOPLE THAT GO TO PACE SELLOUTS HERE IS A QUOTE FOR THE SOUL "JEALOUS PEOPLE NEVER PROSPER, SO GET OVER IT". Start worrying about yourself and become something of yourself and stop worrying about sellouts and all that other BS. You are too young to be so sour at life and schools. Yes I did have my bad times at both NYU an Pace but it got me where I want to go. Plus I am going for another masters degree at Pace to broaden my skills. So I am happy, and so are the rest of my friends that I have made this summer while residing at the dorms.

I am a graduate student at Binghamton University obtaining my Master in Literacy. I wanted to move to New York city for my last and final semester (this fall). I was wondering what college could I transfer to to complete my practicum? Does anyone have any suggestions? The college/University has to have a Literacy program. Thanks for your help!
