just because bio was a more popular major doesn't mean it's one of the stronger departments.
You'll find that bio is one of the most popular majors at almost ALL schools.

Haon-right, that's why I asked. Bio at Amherst is popular. Is it one of the stronger departments? By the way, for those who care, I've done research in other places and people I've talked to tell me Amherst's bio is really strong.

I honestly don't know that much about Amherst's bio department. While I seriously considered Amherst, I wasn't interested in bio as a possible major. Amherst doesn't have many weak departments so it's most likely at least half-decent.
However, if you've heard mixed things about it I'd go with a school that people more unanimously support.
