Hi,
I was just wondering, what exactly does it take to get into UIUC Engineering or LA&S and to get into Rutgers Engineering or LA&S. I am thinking of going into CompE or physics.
Cheers,
John Kay

Check out Illinois's site, uiuc.edu , including its application for admission and FAQ's for the engineering school and A&S as the college itself gives a lot of information showing what it takes to get admitted. Some points:
1. UIUC's middle 50% range (25% to 75%) of admitted students to school of engineering is an ACT score of 29 to 32 (1350 to 1460 SAT) and class rank between top 8% and top 2%. It is more difficult to get into than any other school at UIUC.
2. UIUC's middle range for the A&S school is 25 to 29 ACT (1210 to 1380 SAT) and top 15% to 5% class rank.
2. Most important factors for admission are class rank and test scores (SAT and ACT are accepted; SAT II's are not required and, in fact, even if submitted, they will be ignored). If your school does not rank, they will evaluate courses and grades to give them a sense of where you would stand. Also considered are difficulty of your high school program (number of honors and AP's in college prep courses and success in them) and personal statement, although those are considered more for those who are on the borderline or below the usual range. Legacy is not considered (as we we were told to do so would mean 50% or more of the applicants would have a legacy edge), minority status is. Recommendations are not required but may be considered in borderline cases.

It would be helpful to post your stats, otherwise just check out http://www.collegeboard.com and check the requirements for both schools. UIUC is probably a bit harder to get into and is most likely the better school. For Rutgers, just make sure you do well on the SAT's have atleast a 3.5, and do some interesting clubs & stuff and ur in. Good luck
