Some girls in my class were raving about Spellman College. I know it's an all-girl school and predominantly African American. But what about academics? How does it rank? Is it easy to get in?

Excellent school --- one of only two surviving black women's colleges in the U.S. and this is among the most prestigious of trad. African American schools. Academically, some say it is on par with schools like Smith. Especially strong in sciences (esp. biology) and the humanities. Spellmen sends many graduates right into grad or professional school (prelaw is strong). Lots of individual attention and small classes. Although most students are African-American, school is very diversified geographically and economically. Even though its an all-girl school, there are lots of social opportunities with other schools in Atlanta, including all-male schools. The school is very well-endowed (Bill Cosby is a major contributor) so tuition is relatively low.
Receives about 3,000 applications a year, accepts 53%. Average SAT ranges are around 525 V and 500 math.

I was considering sending my daughter to Spellman until I read about that pathetic professor there who organized the boycott against Nelly. This boycott was a cover to promote her book. Of all the issues facing the Black Community, she publicly attacks a black male. She has illustrated to millions of people that she, as a black woman, is more than willing to attack a black man and ignore others who are misusing and abusing black men, black women, black boys, and black girls. She should be ashamed of herself. She is a self-righteous disgrace to the black race.
If the presense of one professor that you disagree with is all it takes to scratch off a college, your college search will continue for a long time.
