OK, #1 son is on his way out the door as a college freshman. It will be another 4 weeks before he actually goes - but things are falling into place.
Now it's time to think about son #2, who is a junior. Though I've learned ALOT about the college choice/application the first time around, this is a completely different kid.
#2 is a pretty good student, and he really loves lacrosse - but he is not a star, though he works hard and played varsity as a sophomore. He's really not willing to do what it takes to be a star - and seeing what the stars' parents' do - neither am I. We have not done, and simply are not able to do, total immersion. However, he'd really like to play in college - not looking to be recruited or anything. However this is just one factor for him in making decisions.
#1 son was not an athlete, and so including this factor in college selection is a new experience.
We do intend to discuss this with his lacrosse coach, but most of the kids who go on to play, are playing on teams for state schools that I would not choose for my son as an overall college experience. I think the scope of the local coaches is, understandably, the local schools where they have personal connections.
So, other than narrowing the list to include schools that have lacrosse available, and talking to the coach and guidance counselor in September, are there any suggestions? I simply would like to have him work on doing some narrowing of the possibilities while he has time this summer, especially so we can begin some visits.
Thanks!

Tsdad,
Wow. Thanks for the list and the link. I see the names of some schools we've identified- we'll get started going through the rest.
Many thanks

another school you might look at is u miami(OH) it is a very good inevpensive publice school with a good DI or II lacrosse team. i know because i recieved stuff from them. the lacrosse team is easy anough to get onto that I as a mediocer varsity player from a second year team am getting letters from their coach.
P.S. Franklin marshal and ithica while both being good schools that your son should look at have fairly promenant lacrosse teams who regularly make the national tournamant and often make it to the second round. if nothing else your son can play on a club or intermural team. thats what i plan to do seeing as how the college i hope to attend doesn't have a lacrosse team.

My older brother is an athlete at University of Pennsylvania and I am an athlete at Boston College. I suggest making a video tape of your son playing lacrosse. Splice together clips from different games, or of him doing drills in practice. His high school coach can probably help with this. Send the tape to schools where you think he could possibly play and is interested in attending, along with a letter from your son to the university's coach expressing his interest in their school, his stats, ECs, and asking if the coach will both A: offer his support in admission AND, B: thinks he could play on the school's team.

Definitely look into Ohio Wesleyan. Strong lacrosse and solid academic program as well.
