In a FT survey of the world's top 23 universities, Penn showed up as a top school. Do you think that Penn is a respectable school. Is it better than Oxford and Cambridge? Is it top ten in the world?

No WAY!!!
Maybe it's good for economics and business but aside from that...

where did you get this FT ranking?

By Mrsanguine101 (Mrsanguine101) on Friday, July 11, 2003 - 04:51 pm: Edit

I think that Penn is easilly in the top rankings for business and related courses (Wharton). I'm not aware of it in regards to other areas though.

Yea, that ranking is really shady. UCLA is on that list too.

Where exactly did it rank? I think Penn suffers from a bad rep just because its students like to party, the campus is in Philly, and because it USED to be easy to get credits. In reality it's a top school, and Wharton definitely helps. Their A&S program, especially writing, is at least top 5 in the US, nursing is #1 I assume, they have a decent engineering program, the United States' First Medical School which is top 10, etc. etc. It ranks so high because it is very well-rounded and has Wharton, which takes the cake in business.

"I think Penn suffers from a bad rep just because its students like to party, the campus is in Philly, and because it USED to be easy to get credits. "
BS!!!
MIT students like to party and they attend classes in a cinder-block prison, but MIT still has a great reputation.
And it is STILL easy to get credits at Penn. Haven't looked at the credit requirements? that light bulb joke wasn't created for no reason.

MIT students like to party

Why am I having trouble picturing this..?

By Noway (Noway) on Saturday, July 12, 2003 - 03:46 pm: Edit

b/c u believe a certain stereotype about MIT students.
A lot of them binge drink big time. In fact, one student died at a party a few years ago. (The boston police started cracking down on all the college campuses in the area after that.)

Oh my God! They don't drink, do they!?!?

How wild.

P.S My original post was a joke, this one is sarcasm.

Noway, you're an idiot. A Penn-hating idiot at that, grow up loser. What makes you think you would know anything? Stop spreading your propaganda just because you're insecure.

Noway seems like one to be suffering from some serious sexual frustration, don't mind anything he says.

Penn's buisness school has a good reputation outside of the US, but from my own personal experience (I'm an American studying at Cambridge) if you say Penn, most people will think of Penn State, which tends to have better name recognition, especially in the sciences and engineering.
