How accurate are the results that come up as Reach Match and Safety? I have a few doubts on a few schools that came up as matches and I was wondering what success people have been admitted into those schools. I was wondering if I should use those to determine my 2-3 reaches and 3-4 matches and 2-3 safeties. Any input would be appreciated.

It's just to give you a relative idea of what kinds of schools are reaches, matches and safeties, but after you reach a certain level it doesn't list any reaches for you but in reality schools like HYPS are reaches for EVERYONE unless they are Chelsea Clinton or something...so, yeah. Counselor-o-Matic is a good way to get a preliminary list of schools that are around your level; CollegeBoard.com also has a similar search, but by no means should you expect the results to be entirely accurate, especially since they are based on a handful of multiple choice questions that there are always exceptions to for each person.

hahahahaha not very accurate. i got these results with a 1440 SAT:
Reaches: NONE
Good Match (in order):
-Cornell (whoo hoo! first choice)
-Harvard
-Stanford
-Duke
-Brown
Safety
-U of Mich
-Case Western Reserve U
(some others i forget)
how can Harvard and Stanford and all of that be GOOD MATCHES? they are clearly "reaches" for EVERYONE. that thing has gone nuts i tell ya...i almost dropped out of my seat

by match they probably look at avg. SAT score of the colleges which would be 1400s even for Hv..

Huh? I got 1510 and some of my reaches were
-Harvard
-Stanford
-Duke
-Brown
and my 'Good Match' is Cornell and others. Maybe you got some fantastic GPA or something.

Don't automatically put the top choices for extracurriculars and sports, now....

I will tell you why...
They put a GREAT emphasis on GPA...
only 4.0 GPA can make reach --> good match

I have had pretty good results. Turned up couple of colleges I hadn't thought about and now are top picks. Some of the matches matches seemed a bit of a reach but safeties were fine. When my SAT's went up 120 pts a couple of matches became safeties. The oddest thing was that they matched me with one grad school (no under grad program) and one all female school and I am sure I checked male and wanting a coed school. I still thinik that a super safety needs to be a home state school that has to take you.

yeah but it has to be a safety you would be ok going to and would like.
