Now, im not bashing all you Ive League hopefuls out there but I just wanna take a poll I guess. Are you applying to _______(enter Ivy League school) to:
Brag to people that you went there?
Because you have the grades?
Because your parents are making you?
Because if you don't go to this school, you're a nobody?
Because everyone is applying?
Because you know you can get in?
Because you thrive in an atmosphere that is cutthroat and extremely competitive?
Well I hope that all who apply get accepted (even though most wont) but once you do attend, are you sure this is gonna be the place where you wanna spend 4 years of your life?

I'm going to apply to Cornell. The Reasons are:
-I heard it was very hard there (in terms of academics). I believe that I'm going to learn more there as a result.
-I heard the research opportunities for undergrads there are extremely easy to get, and it has one of the most extensive undergrad research programs of any college anywhere.
-I know I'm going to meet a lot of people very much like me, and a lot of people very much different from me. I believe I'll prosper from both.
-It has some of the most extensive alumni connections in the world.
-I heard it was very well-respected in the area(s) I tentatively want to major in.
-I like the location (I do have yet to visit it), and I'm used to that upstate New York weather (I live in NJ).
-It is reasonably close by, but isn't too far away.
-A degree from there is very well-respected, both in getting jobs and applying to graduate school.
-I'm moderately reading (and am going to read a lot more) some books by professors there, and I like what I see.
-It has a very extensive choice of majors. If I find I don't like what I'm doing, I could very easily dive into the hundreds of majors they offer there.
-Not a lot of what I DON'T like to see in a college is present there.

I am applying to Yale because:
I loved the campus (not the surrounding city but the campus)
I am really interested in its Directed Studies program and its Humanities major
I like the idea of the residential colleges

Cornell! (For the same reasons as 07139)
-i love NY, i used to live in upstate NY before i moved to this crummy town in Ohio
-i know many many people who have attended or currently attend and everyone says they loved it there
-the campus is breathtaking in EVERY way
-hard academics=i will be more educated and will be able to motivate myself to study and learn more
-great programs in bio/premed, which will help me get into a great med school
-i like the rural feel of it since i've always lived in a small/medium sized town
-well known school with a great reputation (i am not implying *prestige*)
-i used to spend a month there every summer in itahca and i am attached to the place
-i will meet many people there who are like me, and i definitely look forward to it...
maybe this will motivate me to start their application...hehe
