UNC-Chapel Hill for out-of-state students? Would someone with an SAT score in the mid 1200s and over a 4.0 cumulative GPA (4.0 UW), satisfactory (but not extraordinary) EC's, and good recs have a solid chance at that school? Thanks in advance.

Hmmm...I believe the out of state acceptance rate for UNC-CH is about 10%. I'm no expert, but I'd be concerned about a mid-1200 SAT. My son's SAT is 1570, and we're not positive that he'll get into UNC (his first choice), largely because, as you mentioned, EC's are nothing spectacular.

You'd have a chance, but it's extremely difficult to get into out of state because UNC has to take something like 82-83% of the class from NC.
