could anyone list a few for me? I want to attend a large liberal arts college in NYS, studying particularly poli sci and economics, but i don't know of any other than Columbia (which will be my reach). this would be greatly appreciated.

Union College and University of Rochester are good, but they aren't very large. Come to think of it, neither is Columbia University.

In the greater NYC area - Fordham, NYU, St. John's U, Wagner, Manhattan College. In the NYC Suburbs: Iona, Manhattanville, Adelphi, Hofstra, Fairfield U. (actually in CT but in greater NYC area), Drew University (actually in NJ but also in greater NYC area). A bit farther a field (within two to five hours drive of NYC): Trinity College in Hartford, CT, Connecticut College in New London, CT, Syracuse University in upstate NY, Rutgers in NJ, Cornell in upstate NY, Hartwick in upstate NY, Hamilton in upstate NY, Colgate in upstate NY. Size of these schools vary from very large (NYU, St. John's, Syracuse) to mid-size (Colgate, Fairfield) to smaller schools but all have a focus on liberal arts with strong programs in Poli. Sci./Economics. Another possibility to check out is SUNY at Stony Brook on Long Island, which I understand has a good political science department, even though it is known mostly as a science school.

In terms of academics in the areas you're interested in Columbia, of course, would be tops, followed by this group (not in any particular order): Cornell, Hamilton, NYU, Fordham, Trinity, Connecticut College, Colgate, Fairfield, Syracuse. However, all of the schools on the list above are worth looking at, depending on how close you want to be to NYC. Drew, in particular, has an interesting semester on Wall Street program.
