A community college has no residential facilities which may pose a problem for an International student.

See web link above
Also generally , all Public Community colleges have no residences. A handful of private community colleges have residences ( Pine Manor College comes to my mind - there must be others and I wonder if someone knows of a website that lists two - year colleges with residences in the U.S. )

re residential halls: in some communities there are private dorms that rent to both students at the 4 year university and the local CC. In Santa Barbara, Francisco Torres in Isla Vista (location of UCSB) has in the past rented dorm rooms to City College students. It might have been sold to UCSB so I am not sure what the arrangements will be now. It would probably be about a 15 minute drive away. Local bus service is also good.
Also in San Luis Obispo there are private student housing that you can live in and attend Cuesta College.

I do not think that community college is bad ATALL. In fact I have seen many people transferring to great universities, that is very hard to get in as a freshman, from a community college. Plus, you would pay much less money for it.
