I have heard a lot about Cal Poly schools and how some of them surpass the lower UC schools in particular departments.

Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of Cal Poly, especially Cal Poly Pomona? I am most interested in the areas of engineering and economics.

Sorry, but I only know about Cal Poly-SLO. The con is that its really hard to change majors, pros are the business/economics,engineering, and architechture programs.

If your talking about Cal Poly-SLO's comparison to some UC's in regards to selectivity and reputation, its regarded more highly than UCR, UCSC, and some people consider it to be on par with UC-Davis, UCSB, and UCI.

UC's and Cal Poly are different types of schools, with Cal Poly focusing more on job training, while UC's focus more on overall education (possibly prep for grad school)

Cal Poly Pomona is nowhere near as selective as Cal Poly SLO and is not ranked anywhere near Cal Poly SLO. Cal Poly SLO engineering and architecture grads are actively recruited by major firms. A recent poll of architecture firms put Cal Poly SLO 2nd only to Harvard in terms of the desirability of its recruits. (Cornell was 3rd.)

Cal Poly SLO and Cal Poly Pomona used to be affiliated with each other, but they ended that relationship in 1966. Now their only commonality is their name and the fact that they are both part of the larger California state college system.

I think in terms of selectivity it is:
UC Berkeley
UC Los Angeles
UC San Diego
UC Santa Barbara
UC Irvine
UC Davis
CP San Luis Obispo
UC Santa Cruz
UC Riverside
UC Merced
CP Pomona
