Hi,
I live in Texas and love Rice. I have a few family members who went there, but that was some time ago. I would like to know who got into Rice recently? What are your stats? If you are attending Rice or planning to do so, what do u think of the school as a whole? This will really help me. I am one of the million anxious, curious, worried juniors.
Thnx

I know someone who got into Rice. They had 1600 SAT I, about 3.95 unweighted. VERY good extracurriculars. They are going there next year.

Thnx chichi.
Anyone else? Anyone without a 1600 going to Rice?

hey...i know someone whose going to rice this year...unfortunately i dont know too much about their stats. um lets see...asian female from NY, VERY good in the math and science area, took maybe 5 AP science courses, numerous awards in math competitions, etc. but i don't think she had a very good SAT score because she is a recent immigrant (maybe 2~3 years sicne she came?). i mean...she's a quick learner so her verbal can't have been that bad but i don't think it was over 700. also, as far as i know she is not in any sports and is not president of any clubs, or anything like that. sorry i couldnt help more.

Well, a friend of mine (senior) was accepted to Rice and he's going there next year. He was ranked #1 out of about 210, dunno his GPA, or his SAT scores for that matter (I THINK 1510 SAT I). He had a pretty good EC list (varsity tennis, varsity debate, marching/concert/jazz band, NHS, Science/Math League).

I agree with your assessment of Rice. I know three people who chose it over Harvard, Yale and Duke. Their stats were strong --1510 to 1600 SAT I's and 750+ SAT II's. But don't let all of the 1600's discourage you. The majority of students are under 1500 (but not by much).

Although Rice is the best value in higher education, it is still relatively unknown. I'm guessing that ED is the best route to admission if it is clearly your first choice. The interim and regular decision pools have a lot of HYP/MIT/Duke/Stanford overlap, which will only get worse. Fortunately for you, most people don't yet realize that Texas is more civilized than the East coast.

Thanx everyone.
Yes, it is my first choice, but I will need financial assistance. If I apply ED, I won't be sure of receiving any. If I apply interim, as Wobudong said, I will be competing against MIT/Stanford/Harvard pool. I am an average student with a 1450+ SAT. HELP!!!

Rice meets demonstrated need of all who are admitted. Moreover, it starts off 10K cheaper than comparable schools. Most top colleges will release students from ED commitments if financial need is not met. If I were you I would apply ED.
