Hi!
Are there any particular colleges that are really reputable for studying economics? every college seems to claim that economics is their strong area..
Thank you very much.

Economics is a really broad subject. My guess is that any university that boasts a strong liberal arts curriculum should have a solid economics dep't. But again it also depends on what aspect of Economics you would like to focus on.
For example, if you are pusuing it as a pre-professional degree for a future of Business, then Wharton School (U of Penn.) would be a great place. Whereas, if say you are looking to get focused on Economics as an International Relations discpline and how it is interwoven with Politics etc, you could look at the School of Foreign Service (Georgetown) ..
So I would suggest you make this as a starting point: think of which approach you want to study economics and then look for universities that focus on it. Afterwards, you can narrow down your choices depending on what type of environment it's in, its measure of selectivity, etc..
Hope that helps ..

Yoshi's advice is good, starburst. Your career objectives could make a difference, too. Investment banking firms, consultants, etc., like "name" schools. If you are planning on a masters or doctoral degree, a prestige undergad school may be less important than a solid learning experience.
Gourman's top ten (take with a really big grain of salt) include MIT, Chicago, Stanford, Princeton, Harvard, Yale, Minnesota, Penn, Wisconsin, and Berkeley.

my b-school nephew at UMichigan says econ in arts & sciences [outside business schools] is less prestigious than in b-school. most ivies do not have b-school. find the college you want, think most econ programs will work fine for you.
